Tattoo Lubricant
I was asked by my brother to develop a tattoo lube, so here it is! Every ingredient in these lubrication sticks is organic, and was chosen specifically for the qualities that the oil possesses in terms of skin nurturing, relief from pain and itching, anti-inflammatory characteristics, and protection for the skin.
Beeswax helps the skin retain moisture and has antioxidant and antibacterial properties. It contains vitamin A, which is needed for skin cell development. Cocoa Butter protects the skin and is rich in vitamin E, which gives it antioxidant properties and helps to keep the skin supple. Shea Butter is antifungal and anti-inflammatory. It has been used to treat burns, wounds, chapped skin, sunburn, and also can help to relieve the itching and irritation that is present while a new tattoo heals. Jojoba Wax chemically resembles human sebum, supports the natural pH balance of the skin, and is another ingredient that has historically been used to treat skin irritation, itching, sunburn, and chapped skin. Whereas Beeswax and Cocoa Butter coat the skin in order to protect it and hold in moisture, Jojoba helps to keep the pores open, which is important with new tattoos as they need to breathe as they heal. And finally, Baobab Oil has been included for its ability to penetrate the skin cell barrier and therefore is deeply emollient and softening. Baobab Oil comes from seeds of a tree that grows to an enormous size on the African continent and in Australia. Baobab Oil is used to heal scar tissue and to alleviate skin pain from burns. It also moisturizes and helps to relieve itching. This oil is rich in vitamin E, which is a natural antioxidant.
In addition, several organic essential oils have been added to this product. Lavender has anti-inflammatory properties and it is known to assist with the healing of burns, insect bites, rashes and skin injuries. Patchouli is cooling and moisturizing and is used to treat scarring, inflammation, skin abrasions and injuries. Tea Tree is used as an anti-fungal and a germ fighter, and is often used to heal skin abrasions and acne. Helichrysum is probably one of the best essential oils to use on the skin in order to reduce inflammation and to support the healing process. It has been said to assist with cell regeneration and to reduce bruising and scarring. It also smells great!
This stick was designed to keep the skin hydrated and supported, to help prevent the colors of your tattoo from fading. For maintenance it should be applied daily, or as needed, to keep the skin soft and lubricated. A little goes a long way, and it should be gently rubbed into the skin after application.
For a new tattoo, the area should be washed with a mild soap, and thoroughly rinsed, 3 times daily. After air drying the skin, gently apply a thin layer of the lubricant to the area.
